Three Suspects Arrested at Meth Lab in Milton
On 5/17/12, at approximately 0430 hours, a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling the area of Stanley Circle, Milton, when he noticed a strong odor of smoke in the air. The deputy was able to determine that the smoke was coming from a house located at 6447 Stanley Circle. As the deputy pulled in front of the residence, he observed a male subject standing behind a vehicle on the property. The subject walked towards the deputy and voluntarily began to speak with him. The subject was identified as 30 year old Daniel Perkins (7700 block of Johnson Road, Milton, FL). Perkins was extremely nervous and sweating profusely, according to the deputy. During the conversation, Perkins spontaneously stated that he had a cellophane wrapper containing Xanax pills in his pocket. Perkins also produced a container from his pocket and stated, “It’s just Spice”. Spice was recently declared a controlled substance under Florida Law. Five Xanax pills were also located. Perkins stated that there were other subjects located inside the residence. The deputy determined that the smoke was coming from a fire in the back yard of the residence. A strong chemical odor was coming from the area of the fire, as well as the rear of the house. The odor caused the deputies eyes to water and he began to cough. The deputy recognized the odor to be that of a methamphetamine lab. Perkins was asked about this after being read Miranda rights. Perkins agreed that the odor was consistent with a methamphetamine cook and stated that there were subjects inside that he believed were in the process of cooking methamphetamine. Other deputies arrived to assist, and could hear movement inside the residence, as well as people looking out windows. Deputies also located an empty can of starter fluid near the fire, as well as a pile of granule fertilizer and corroding lithium strips directly underneath an open window of the residence. These items are all used in the production of methamphetamine. Narcotics detectives responded and a search warrant was obtained for the residence. Two suspects were located inside the residence, and they were involved in the production of methamphetamine. These suspects were identified as Shawn Richard Fagen, 24 years old (6500 block of Handy Drive, Milton) and Sarah Rose, 27 years old (6447 Stanley Circle, Milton). Detectives also located numerous items associated with the production of methamphetamine, to include: a plastic bottle with liquid and residue which tested positive for methamphetamine, smoking devices, a pharmacy receipt pseudoephedrine, tubing, coffee filters, and glassware used in the production process. Detectives determined that the substances that were found underneath the open appeared to be a “shake and bake” cook that had been dumped from the window. Deputies also found that Fagen has made numerous purchases of pseudoephedrine from local pharmacies. Fagen admitted to the purchases.
Based on all of the evidence that was found, Perkins, Rose, and Fagen were arrested on the below mentioned charges.
