Spring Band Concert at JHS
The Jay High Royal Pride Band perform in their annual Spring Concert. The band under the direction of Connie Pettis attended the state competition and obtained the highest score of any band in Santa Rosa County. This is the first time in 49 years the concert band has made it to the state competition. They received an overall “Excellent”. The Varsity Band Banquet will be Monday, May 21 at the Jay Community Center beginning with dinner at 6 pm.
The Royal Bass Quintet welcomed the crowd by playing “The Star Spangled Banner”.
The Sixth Grade Beginning Band opened the concert with “In the Beginning”, “Ode to Joy”, and “Itsy, Bitsy, Teenie Weenie, Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini”. Members of the band are:
Flute: Amber Daines; Clarinet: Autumn Ates, Rebecca Hawthorne, Alanis Patterson; Saxophone: Julie Baker, Tanner Macks, Brandon White; Trumpet: Austin Gonzales, Briannah Lowe, Jennifer Lowry, Jeremiah Stearns, Destiny Sump; Trombone: Olivia Cook; Percussin: Jose Bolivar, T.J. Routley, Matthew Taylor; Mallets: Amanda Nelson.
6th Grade Band Awards: Most Improved – Amber Daines; Best Woodwind – Rebecca Hawthorne; Best Brass – Jennifer Lowry; Most Dedicated – Olivia Cook; Best Percussion – Matthew Taylor.
The Symphonic Concert Band played some selections that they performed at the state competition and then one for fun. They performed: Lexington March, Cumberland Cross, Simple Gifts and The Lion King. More to come on the Royal Pride Band in connection with the Awards night on Monday, May 21.
