Win Some – Lose Some
The Lady Royals ended their season in the State Championship game. Only two teams get this honor and one walks away in 2nd place and on Tuesday, May 8 the Lady Royals fell to Lafayette 12-9. The Lady Royals are 21-4 for the season. A tremendous record. Coach Watson said after the game, “I am proud to have coached this group of girls, and to see the character they displayed the last two weeks preparing for this game.”
They came into the season wanting the district title and ended with much more. They brought home the Region 1 crown and now the Runner-up in the State Class 1A Softball Championship. This is the highest honor a softball team from Jay High School has had. As one fan says, “It’s a great day to be a Royal”. Coach Watson stated, ” the girls battled back, never gave up, they had a great year, a great run, and came up a little short. ” Another season starts tomorrow, joked one of the dad’s.
The Ladies fought a tough battle and loss to a good team. It was a proud moment on both sides of the stands as two public schools in the Rural Class took the field for the state championship.
Stats: Tessa Hendricks 2-4,R, SB; Camille Driver 2-4, R, 2 RBI’s; Michaela Stewart 2-3, R, 2 RBI’s; Olivia Wright 1-4, 2RBI’s; Ashlyn Geck 1-3, 2R; Sydney Lowery 1-2, RBI; Becca Callaway 1-3, 2R, RBI; Taylor Moore (running for Sydney Lowery) 2 Runs, SB.
