Lady Royals Keeping it Going -One More Day

The Jay High Lady Royals are keeping the season alive.  Their defeat of Port St. Joe (7-5) in the semi-finals of Class 1A Softball takes them to the Championship bracket where they will face the (winner of the Lafayette and Union County game) at 3:05 CST on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.  “We had several breaks in a big game”, said  Coach Brian Watson.

Port St. Joe took the early lead in the first scoring three runs.  But the Royals would not stop, Tessa Hendricks homered (the first in her varsity career) on the first pitch to her.  “That helped the momentum swing our way”, Watson said.  In the second, the girls just put the ball in play and the Sharks had 3 defensive errors, with Olivia, Ashlyn and Tessa providing singles to give the Royals the lead.  In the fifth, the game was tied 5 all.  The Lady Royals keep their heads in the game, keep the Sharks 3 up 3 down in the 6th and 7th.  The Lady Royals had Lady Luck on their side from the first coin toss to the last bat.  With a crazy 6th inning the Lady Royals scored two more runs to regain the lead.

“I am so proud of the girls, we are all excited to be heading to the Championship Game” , said Ch. Watson.  “They all stepped up and played their game”.
