Lady Royals Have Hope

The Jay High Lady Royals are in the State Semi-Final game at 11 am. at Clermont, FL.  They are playing against Port St. Joe.  This is the first year for the Rural School Division.  Before there seem to be a unbalanced playing field when schools like Jay and Central went into the playoffs.  This year the Lady Royals have the hope and ability to get to the State Championship game and to win it.  Elijah Bell, former Athletic Director at Jay,  along with several other coaches in the Class 1A division in northwest Florida, fought hard to establish this classification. They fought, according to Coach Bell, “because schools like Jay are at a disadvantage in the post season.”  The overwhelming statics since 2000 showing that small rural public school only won 6 of 75 championships.  These were in the Class 1A or 2A divisions.  The small urban schools, both public and private, had a extraordinary dominance in the post season.  With a committee made up of 5 members, they ironed out the Rural School Division.
