Brothers Arrested After being Caught Burglarizing Vehicles and Stealing Guns in Pace

On 4/10/2012 at 0243 hours, Deputy Brad Harrison with the Santa Rosa County Sheriffs Office was dispatched to the area of North Spencerfield Road after receiving a tip that two subjects were in the area burglarizing vehicles.  The complainant, Gerald Stewart, stated that his two brothers, Travis and Dylan Stewart, had snuck out of the house to burglarize vehicles in the neighborhood.  Deputy Harrison responded to the area and went to a newer subdivision (Winners Gait) and began to watch the area with his lights off. Harrison  noticed a cargo light illuminated on a pickup truck located onGold Cup Court. Harrison observed Travis and Dylan Stewart exit the truck. The brothers then sawHarrison’s patrol vehicle and began to flee on foot. Harrisonwas able to detain Travis Stewart in the front yard of the offense, while Dylan Stewart continued to flee, jumping over fences.  Once Harrison placed Travis in the rear of his patrol car, Harrison continued to look for Dylan. Harrison located Dylan Stewart hiding nearby on Winners Gait Circle.  Dylan was taken into custody at that point.  A search of both suspects yielded flashlights, money, sunglasses, and other contents from vehicles. Harrison also located a loaded .45 caliber handgun that the brothers had stolen from one of the vehicles in the neighborhood.  Both suspects (after being read their rights) agreed to drive with Harrison  and point out the vehicles they had burglarized.  The brothers had attempted to enter every vehicle on Gold Cup Court, but they only located and entered three (which were unlocked).  The subjects were transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail and charged with numerous felonies related to the burglaries and thefts.

While at the jail, Gerald Stewart (the brother of the suspects) contacted the Sheriff’s Office and told them that he had located another firearm in Travis and Dylan’s bedroom.  The firearm (a .40 caliber handgun) was reported stolen from a vehicle in Autumn Run Subdivision, Pace, FL, in 2011.  Travis and Dylan were questioned about the firearm and admitted to stealing it during the burglary in 2011.
