Boys Basketball Championship

The Community Boys Basketball League Championship was held Saturday, Feb 25 at the Jay High Gym. The winners of the 1st -4th Grade League was “The Pride” .  The Pride is coached by Dr. Michael Smith and Dr. David Smith.  They defeated the Chumuckla Indians coached by Mike Simmons by a score of 41-25.  The game was close until the Pride started a full court press defense late in the 4th quarter and took the lead.  The Pride was 1st in the Season and 1st in the Tournament.

In the 5th and 6th grade age bracket the game went to the Chumuckla Indians coached by Ben Ellison.  The Royals, coached by Pearson,  and the Indians met three times in the regular season with the Royals having the advantage 2-1.  The teams battled back and forth but when the buzzer sounded the Indians had 40 to the Royals 37.  The Indians were 1st in the Tournament and 2nd in the Season.  The Royals were 1st in the Season and 2nd in the tournament.   Scoring for the Indians: N.Pitts -12, B. Ellison-12, G. Lowe-8, N. Shook -4, C. White -2 and M. Nordstrum -2.  Scoring for the Royals:  Burkhead -13, Flowers -12, Courtney -6, Kelly -4, Godfrey -2 and J. McDaniels -2.
