National Heart Month – GO RED TODAY!

Baptist Health Care and Cardiology Consultants Raise Awareness During National Heart Month

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Feb. 7, 2012) – As the nation recognizes American Heart Month in February as a time to battle cardiovascular disease, Baptist Health Care and Cardiology Consultants are providing education and prevention tips to live heart-healthy lives.  On Wednesday, February 15 they will be at the Royal Room located at Jay Hospital 14111 Alabama St. in Jay  from 9:30- 10:30 am.

Heart disease, including stroke, is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
You are at higher risk of heart disease if you are:

  • A woman age 55 or older
  • A man age 45 or older
  •  A person with a family history of early heart disease

Heart disease can be prevented. To keep your heart healthy:
·  Watch your weight
· Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke
· Control your cholesterol and blood pressure
· If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation
·  Get active and eat healthy
·  Manage stress
·  Talk to your doctor about your medical history

“One of the most important steps we can take in preventing heart disease is to understand the risk factors,” said Thanh Duong-Wagner, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.S.E., cardiologist, Cardiology Consultants.  “There are risk factors that we can’t control such as age, gender and family history, but there are many risk factors that we can control like smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol and lack of exercise. In addition, early detection through preventive screenings lessens your chance of developing this life-threatening disease.”
