Upcoming Star – Makayla Simmons
Makayla Simmons, 9th grader at Central High School and upcoming star in women’s basketball. Makayla started playing basketball at the age of 9. She loves it so much that even during the off season she continues practicing. Basketball is a family sport for Makayla, her first cousin, Zac Wright also plays at Central, they are only weeks apart in age and are both left handed.
Makayla’s greatest achievement is obtaining a triple-double against Poplar Springs in the 8th grade. She enjoys that basketball is a team sport and everybody gets the glory and not just one person. This year Makayla has displayed good rebounding skills and her ability to knock shots down from the perimeter has been a asset for the Lady Jaguars.
Makayla plays AAU Basketball with the Barracudas, a local team of girls from Santa Rosa County. The team is coached by Binky Martello. Makayla would like to play basketball in college and one day get drafted to the WNBA.
