Central Goes RED

Today, Friday February 3, 2012 is National Wear Red Day.  Too many women die each year because they are unaware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer. One in three women suffers in silence, and almost one woman dies every minute of this largely preventable disease.  Together, we can bring a voice to this silent killer to help save lives. We can  listen to what our hearts are telling us, wear red on National Wear Red Day and spread the word to our friends and community about making the right choices and taking action.  Today many around the nation are wearing RED in the memory of loved ones or to honor those women who are currently battling heart disease.  The Students at Central are participating in honor of one of their own.  Gabrielle Danford, 15, was recently diagnosed with a severe heart condition and the solution – a heart transplant.  Gabby is currently awaiting a transplant at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.  Be a part of the cure, wear RED.  You can also help Gabby and her family by donating.  There are jars set up at the school, in local stores or sponsor a child for the Jump Rope for Heart.  This year the team at Central is dedicating this day to Gabby.

Most of the time, selecting clothing isn’t that critical. But on Wear Red Day, it’s vitally important. That’s because wearing red on National Wear Red Day or any day makes a statement about the No. 1 killer of American women: heart disease, the cause of one in every three female deaths.  Wearing red is more than just a fashion statement. It’s a way to speak up against heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women in America. Wear red, spread the word and save lives.
