The New “Voice of the Royals”

You may have heard a new sound at the Jay High School Gym this season.  The sound of the new Voice of the Royals.  Cameron Andrews, a local businessman and father, is introducing the Royals.  Cameron is the father of 5 Jay Elementary and High School students, they are:  Reilly 14, Emma 12, Carleigh 11, Sam 9 and Hadley 6.  The family came to Jay in August of 2010.

Cameron explains how he became involved with the sports program at Jay High, “I’ve been involved in student ministry for 8 years and have done some events here at JHS for and with Jay First Baptist, where we attend. So I’ve come to know some of the students through that and the sports activities of my children. So a few days after a 5th quarter event we held here at school, some of the basketball players asked if I could use the sound system and play music as they came out and announce the teams for each home game.”  The rest is history.

The school and Cameron have tried some different things with sound and the county did some work on the house system and they are still tweaking it. It’s a work in progress. There are some updates that are planned.  The system that is in the gym is old but it is a top-end system and with budgets being tight they are adjusting the existing system.  Some new wiring is possible, and new additional jacks, have been requisitioned through the county.

In coordination with Athletic Director Coach Youngblood, Vice-Principal Carlisle Griffin, and Principal Brad Marcilliat, it’s evident that the school leadership wants the sound to be something that the students and the town can be proud of.  The gym is a multiuse facility and we should have the best for our students.

Cameron has been asked to announce some baseball games in the spring.  He says, “I will be willing to help where I am needed and time permits. As much fun as I am having being involved, work still craves some attention from time to time.”
