Upcoming Star – Harley Tagert

This week’s upcoming star is Harley Jae Tagert.  Harley is a 7th grader at Jay High School and the daughter of Diann and Ricky Tagert.  Harley began to play softball the first time at the age of 9 for a coach that instilled the love of the game, the importance of teamwork and the fact that hard work will pay off to a group of young girls.

Her greatest achievement on the field was pitching a no hitter game, and  off the field she is proud of scoring a 500 (perfect score) on the reading FCAT test as a 6th grader and winning the FFA speech contest in early December.

Her favorite part of softball is that “ You are part of a team that is depending on you to do your best.    When I am on the pitchers mound I know the team is depending on me to pitch my best and I am equally depending on them to do their best too.  I have had the opportunity to meet lots of great people and lots of both college and professional players and coaches.  There is nothing like your softball friends.”

Harley really doesn’t have an off season.  Because she is a pitcher she actually practices and/or has lessons all year long.   When Harley is not playing all of these sports she is at her favorite camping spot fishing, swimming or just enjoying the water in Eufaula.

Harley continues advancing in softball by playing for the 14U High Intensity team out of Niceville.    She was also a member of the Jay High School Junior High and JV volleyball team.  She is a member of the Jay High School Junior High Basketball team and has just been moved up to the Jay High School Junior Varsity Basket ball team.  Due to a recent injury in a basketball game, Harley will be sporting a pink cast for a few weeks.

Harley’s goal is to continue to play and improve as a softball player.  She wants to have as much fun playing the game I love as I possibly can.  To hopefully be a part of a championship team from Jay High School in the coming years.   My dream would be to attend the University of Florida and play softball.
