Take the Lead and Read

The state of Florida celebrates literacy each year in January. It is called, Celebrate Literacy, Florida! And it will be January 23-27. Area schools are planning many fun literacy activities that week. This year’s theme is Take the Lead and Read! To get the students excited about reading, Just Read, Florida has a race car and driver that will be touring the state beginning with Escambia County on Monday, December 12. Jay Elementary and Central School students have a unique opportunity to see the car and listen to the driver when it comes to Santa Rosa County at Central on Monday, December 12 at noon.

This year the State of Florida has a new partner, the Daytona International Speedway.

Through the Daytona International Speedway, they will showcase a Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! Race Car. The CLW Race Car will be wrapped with partner logos and will tour the state
throughout December 2011 through February 2012. The CLW race car will make scheduled
appearances at schools and Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!  events with the goal of
motivating students to “Take the Lead and Read.” The Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! race
car will also make a special pre-race lap at the Daytona 500 in February 2012.
