OCSO Deputy in Stable Condition Following Shooting

An Okaloosa County deputy is currently undergoing treatment at a Pensacola Hospital after being injured while trying to take a suspect into custody on multiple warrants in Santa Rosa County.
Investigator Steve Hough of Fort Walton Beach was working this afternoon as part of the US Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force. Hough was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Milton and then transported by medical helicopter to Pensacola where he is currently in stable condition. Deputies on scene say he suffered apparent wounds to his legs and face when the suspect came out of the home on Camille Gardens Circle and began shooting.
The suspect was also injured and is being taken to a hospital for treatment.

Update by Santa Rosa Sheriff’s office: On 12/9/11 at approximately 1357 hours, a United States Federal Marshal’s Taskforce member, a Okaloosa Sheriff’s Deputy, was shot off of Camille Garden Circle in Santa Rosa County. The task force consisted of members from the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and United States Federal Marshall’s. The task force was at that location attempting to apprehend David Christopher Lewis. Lewis had active warrants for FTA – Resisting an Officer without Violence, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill, Display of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. Lewis was known to be violent, armed with firearm(s), and had made threats towards law enforcement. The taskforce had tracked Lewis to the above listed address. During the exchange of gun fire the Okaloosa Sheriff’s Deputy and Lewis were shot. Both were transported to an area hospital. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investing the officer involved shooting incident. The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office is pursuing criminal charges for attempted murder and aggravated assault against Lewis due to the incident this afternoon.
