Jim C. Settle

Jim C. Settle, age 70, of Jay, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2011, after a brief illness. Jim was born and raised in Jay and graduated from Jay High School in 1959. He retired from Escambia River Electric Cooperative after 39 years of service.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest L. Settle, and Ruth Wright Settle, brothers Raymond J. and Bruce J. Settle, infant brother, Forrest Leroy Settle Jr., and sister Anna L. Gantt.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce J. Settle, daughter Marsheila Riggs (Chris), daughter Charlon Edmunds (Terry), son Matthew Settle (Sheridan), brother William B. Settle Sr. (Alma), and sister Ester Nutt (Charles), grandchildren Gina Edmunds, Caitlin Riggs, Kevin Edmunds, Melinda Edmunds, Amanda Riggs, Megan Settle, Garrett Settle, Andrew Settle, and daughter-in-law Annie Settle.

Jim touched the lives of many people with his generosity, smile, and trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, cook-outs, camping, trips to the Rockies, and spending time with family and friends who will dearly miss him.

Friends and family are invited to attend visitation from 6-9 pm Saturday, November 19th at Jay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 20th, 2 pm at First Baptist Church Jay, with Rev. Will Rushing and Bro. Frederick Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church cemetery.

Active pall bearers will be Raymond W. Settle, William B. Settle Jr., Richard Jackson, Brent Jackson, Jim Smith, and Jody Settle.

Honorary pall bearers are Wayne Hawthorne, Jabo Jernigan, Frank Rowell, Billy Jordan, Tony Gomillion, Johnny Dunn, Mickey Settle, Bill Jordan, Bruce Godwin, Wayland Nowling, Bobby Little, Bruce R. Linzy and Rodney Wall.

The family would like to express special thanks to the support of family and friends, and the outstanding care provided by the staff of Sacred Heart Hospital.
