The Lady Royals of Jay High School began their season in mid July with one main goal in mind. That goal was to advance to the state meet and to once again become the top public school in Florida. There are 130 schools in Class 1A in Florida. The Royals became the district champions at a meet held in Pace on Nov.5th. This past Saturday in a field of 88 runners and twelve teams the Lady Royals placed fourth at the regional meet held in Lake City Florida. The top six teams advanced to the state meet to be held at Little Everglades Park in Dade City Florida this next Saturday. Jessica Thornton also placed among the top 15 runners which allowed her to advance individually. The Royals are ranked 16th in the state going into the finals. The Lady Royals are the only team, boys or girls, from Santa Rosa County who advanced to the state meet in any of the classifications. Jessica is the only girl to advance from the county in any classification individually. Four of the seven Royals running set new personal records at the meet. The Lady Royals are once again at the top of the public schools. They will be the only public school in competition at the state level.
