Cofield Rushes for 292 Yards in Royal’s Big Win

The Jay Royals beat the Rocky Bayou Knights 48 to 0 Friday night, Sept. 2nd at Merle V. North Stadium.  “Wow, we needed a big win and we got a big win” said Jay fan, Jeff Fischer.

Last week Cofield had several big runs but never found the endzone.  This week he owned the endzone scoring 5 touchdowns in the Royal’s win.  Jay’s 2nd score came as the 2nd quarter opened as Cofield ran the ball in from 44 yards on a Royals counter sweep.  The 3rd touchdown was by far the most exciting play of the night for the Royal fans as a Rocky Bayou punt and a Jay penalty pinned the Royals down on their own 10 yard line.  On the first play quarterback, Tate Upton, handed the ball to Cofield who ran 90 yards through the Knights defense to score.

Then bang bang defensive plays by the Royals forced the Knights to punt and Cofield had a big yardage return. On the next play after a hand-off Cofield run the ball in for a 42 yard touchdown.

Other key player’s for the Jay offense were: Dakota F. Smith (#32) who lead the Royals in a 3rd quarter drive with several long runs and a touchdown; Tate Upton (#10) threw the ball well and also had a 42 yard run scoring Jay’s last touchdown; Dalton Edwards (#11) kicked for the extra points; and Sammy James (#2) had a two-point conversion run.

Jay’s defense dominated Rocky Bayou giving up only 127 total yards and no touchdowns. One key play for the defensive was a big 3th down quarterback sack by Brandon Boutwell (#30) and Logan Brown (#53).

Coach Smith said “the first team defense gave up only one first down. I am very happy for the kids it was a great win for them.  They have worked very hard for 6 months.  Everybody got to play and there were no major injuries – that was Good.”

Next week the Royals host Bonifay.
