The Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams at Jay High School took home District Runner-Up trophies Thursday afternoon at the District 1 1-A Cross Country Championships. The boy’s team finished just behind Pensacola Christian Academy; who won the team title. The Boys second place finish out of eight full teams was good enough for them to advance to the Regional Championships in Tallahassee next weekend. The girl’s team also advanced to the regional meet. Jay Senior runner, Micah Kemp, ran away from the competition winning the individual race and becoming the District Champion. “It’s a fitting end to a great career for Micah”, said Head Boys Coach Matt Dobson. “We have had some very specific goals for him this year and winning the District Championships was one of them. Now, it’s on to the Regional Championships. I’m very proud of him”, said Dobson.

On the girl’s side, Senior runner Jessica Thornton finished 3rd overall in the girls race. “Jessica just keeps leading the girl’s team with some strong running”, said Head Girls Coach Teresa Dobson. “I was really happy the way all the girls stepped it up today beating out Baker and Central who has beat us throughout the season. The girls are running as a team right now and that’s exactly what we need”, said Dobson.

The teams will travel to Tallahassee to compete in the Regional Championships next weekend. The top 4 teams and 15 individuals from that race will qualify for the state championships on November 8th, also in Tallahassee
