Royals Knock off Gators

Tuesday-Jay (20-3) knocked off their rivals from Baker (13-5) at Jay on Tuesday, 57-34, to advance to the district championship. A slow start, at least for Jay’s standards, put Jay up 9-3 at the end of the first quarter. The hot-shooting from Monday night was a little slow to start and the Royals had to lean on good defense and second chance points to extend their lead over the Gators. However even in an “off” night in regards to shooting percentage, Jay still won every quarter against their rivals.

“I’m very proud of the way our reserve players have been playing over the past three to four games,” 5th year head coach and athletic director Hank Hullet said after the game. “During that time span we’ve had Brady Godwin, Tucker Nowling, and Kaden Ellison all score in double figures. “

Brady Godwin came off the bench to lead all scores on the night with 15. Senior Tristan Watson added 6, while Ethan Mcdonald and Mason Allen both had 9.

With those second chance points and offensive rebounding came free throw opportunities and Jay made the most of those chances; the Royals went 13/16 from the line.

Jay will now be hosting Paxton (22-3) this Friday night at 7:00 for the district championship. Jay defeated Paxton earlier this year at Paxton, 44-39.

“Friday night will be a fun night,” Hullet added. “Two top teams competing for the district title. We have wanted to be in this position all year and now it’s about trying to be the best version of our self at 7:00 on Friday night!”
